LYCAN BOOKS

Lycan Books Privacy Policy

How Lycan Books collects, uses and protects the limited personal
information involved in running this website.

Effective 19 August 2026

THE SHORT VERSION

We promise no peculiar business with your data

Lycan Books is an independent publishing imprint, not a
data-mining operation. This website doesn’t offer user accounts,
comments or direct purchasing, and it doesn’t sell your personal
information.

We collect limited technical information needed to keep the
website secure. If you allow optional analytics cookies, we also
collect information about how visitors use the site. If you email
or telephone us, we use the information you provide to respond to
you.

Links to books lead to third-party retailers. Some are affiliate
links, which means Lycan Books may receive a small commission if
you make a qualifying purchase. This doesn’t increase the price
you pay.

1. Who we are

This privacy policy applies to
lycanbooks.com.

The data controller is
Ceri Clark, trading as Lycan Books, an
independent publishing imprint based in Wales, United Kingdom.

Lycan Books publishes books by Ceri Clark and under the
publishing names Ceridwen Hughson, Ceri Nyx and Robin Bayliss.

We process personal information in accordance with the UK
General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018
and, where applicable, the Privacy and Electronic Communications
Regulations 2003.

2. Information we collect

We may collect the following limited categories of information.

Information you provide

If you contact Lycan Books by email, telephone or post, we may
receive:

  • your name;
  • your email address or telephone number;
  • the contents of your enquiry; and
  • any other information you choose to provide.

Please don’t send sensitive personal information unless it is
necessary for your enquiry.

Technical information

Our website host may automatically record technical information
when you visit the website, including:

  • your IP address;
  • browser and device type;
  • requested pages;
  • the date and time of your visit;
  • referral information; and
  • security and error logs.

This information is used to deliver the website, detect faults
and protect the site against malicious activity.

Analytics information

If you consent to optional analytics cookies, Google Analytics
may collect information about how you use the website, such as
pages visited, approximate location, device type and how you
arrived at the site.

Lycan Books uses this information to understand which pages and
books interest visitors and to improve the website. Analytics
cookies should not be placed unless you consent through the
cookie banner.

3. Why we use your information

We use personal information for the following purposes and
lawful bases:

  • To respond to enquiries: our legitimate
    interest in communicating with people who contact us and,
    where relevant, taking steps at your request before entering
    into a contract.
  • To operate and secure the website: our
    legitimate interest in maintaining a reliable and secure
    website.
  • To comply with legal obligations: where
    records must be retained or disclosed under applicable law.
  • To measure website use: your consent, where
    analytics cookies or similar technologies require consent.

Where we rely on legitimate interests, we use information only
in ways visitors would reasonably expect and which have a
limited effect on their privacy.

You may withdraw consent for optional cookies at any time
through the website’s cookie settings. Withdrawing consent
doesn’t affect processing that took place before consent was
withdrawn.

4. Cookies

The website uses strictly necessary cookies and similar
technologies required for essential functions such as security
and remembering your cookie choices.

Optional analytics or third-party cookies will only be used
where you have given consent through the cookie banner.

You can accept, reject or change your cookie preferences using
the cookie controls on this website. Further information,
including the cookies currently in use and their duration, is
available in our
Cookie Policy.

Blocking all cookies through your browser may affect some
website features.

5. Services and third parties

We use selected service providers to operate the website.

Website hosting

The website is hosted by IONOS. IONOS may
process technical information and server logs to provide
hosting, security and maintenance services.

Google Analytics

Where analytics is enabled and you have consented,
Google Analytics processes website usage
information on our behalf. Google’s own privacy information
explains how Google handles data collected through its services.

Book retailers and external websites

This website links to third-party retailers and other websites,
including Amazon and the websites associated with Lycan Books’
publishing names.

When you follow an external link, the destination website may
collect information and place its own cookies. Lycan Books
doesn’t control those websites, and their own privacy and cookie
policies apply.

Embedded content

Pages may occasionally contain content embedded from another
website, such as a video. Embedded content may behave as though
you visited the provider’s website directly and may collect
information or place cookies, subject to your consent where
required.

We don’t sell, rent or trade personal information.

6. Affiliate links

Some links on this website are affiliate links. If you follow
one of these links and make a purchase, Lycan Books may receive
a commission from the retailer. This doesn’t increase the price
you pay.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Amazon and other participating retailers may use cookies or
similar technologies to record that you arrived through an
affiliate link and to attribute any resulting purchase. Their
own privacy and cookie policies apply.

Affiliate links should be identified where they appear.

7. International transfers

Some service providers, including Google and international book
retailers, may process information outside the United Kingdom.

Where personal information is transferred internationally, the
relevant provider is responsible for using an approved legal
safeguard, such as UK adequacy regulations or contractual
protections, where required by data protection law.

8. How long we retain information

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably
necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

In general:

  • correspondence is retained for as long as needed to answer an
    enquiry and manage any related matter;
  • records needed for legal, tax or accounting purposes may be
    retained for the applicable statutory period;
  • security and server logs are retained according to our
    hosting provider’s operational and security schedules; and
  • analytics information is retained according to the settings
    applied within Google Analytics.

Information may be retained for longer where necessary to
establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to
protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised
access, alteration or disclosure.

No internet service or email system can be guaranteed to be
completely secure. Please avoid including unnecessary
confidential or sensitive information in ordinary email
messages.

10. Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give
you the right to:

  • request access to personal information held about you;
  • ask for inaccurate or incomplete information to be
    corrected;
  • ask for personal information to be erased;
  • ask us to restrict how your information is used;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent where processing relies on consent; and
  • complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

These rights aren’t absolute and may depend on the reason the
information is being processed.

To exercise a right, contact Lycan Books using the details
below. We may need to request enough information to confirm your
identity.

Complaints

You can complain to the
Information Commissioner’s Office,
the UK supervisory authority.

Telephone: 0303 123 1113

The ICO recommends contacting the organisation first so it has
an opportunity to address the issue.

11. Children’s information

This website may feature books intended for children, but it
isn’t designed to collect personal information directly from
children. It doesn’t provide children’s accounts, public
comments or interactive community features.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to
Lycan Books unnecessarily, please contact us so the matter can
be investigated.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy when the website, its services
or applicable legal requirements change.

The effective date at the top of the policy will show when it
was last revised. Material changes will be communicated on the
website where appropriate.

13. Contact details

Contact Lycan Books if you have a question about this policy,
want to exercise a data-protection right or wish to raise a
concern.
